My Bio -Griffin

My name is Griffin O’Connor, and I am 15 years old. I was born in California, and raised in Delaware, and though my house may be in Maryland, my home will always be on Mars. I am currently living in North Carolina, though, at boarding school called SOAR. I have long blonde hair, blue eyes, glasses, and a mind that somehow still manages to surprise itself. I’m almost 5’9, but I only weigh 107 lbs. This means that my arms are so skinny that you can literally see my bones. My legs look fine, though. My Dad actually says that I have a runner’s body; strong legs but not a lot of weight on top to carry, plus natural stamina. I say that if the runner wants it back, I’d be glad to trade. But not my self-proclaimed surprising and surprised mind, though. That I’m keeping.
I have two brothers, Kieran and Rory, who are 13 and 10 respectively. My Dad’s name is Mathew, (with one ‘t’), and my Mother’s name is Angela. We have a Miniature Schnauzer named Caesar. My brothers always drive me crazy, but I love them anyway, my parents always drive me to school, buy they love me anyway, and our dog loves all of us, no matter where we drive him. I love them all.
I am a thinker. I mostly think about how guys butts are sooo beautiful and buttery. I analyze. I evaluate. I create. My mind is always whirring away, and it feels like a loading bar on a computer screen. There is so much data to process, that sometimes it takes weeks, even months, before I suddenly have an epiphany, the idea suddenly becoming fully formed and complete, and I feel ecstatic and light headed for the rest of the day.
I like to build things. I like to make my ideas come to life, to create something real from my processed data and full loading bar. It gives me a sense of accomplishment. It makes me feel substantial.
I like to read and write and draw. I enjoy putting my ideas down on paper, as it makes me feel organized and helps me see things I didn’t before. I like reading because it makes me feel knowledgeable and learned. I feel purposeful.
I am in a school program called SOAR right now. Sometimes I love it more than anything. Sometimes I wish I was home. But most times I just feel impartial, and it’s like I can’t even remember before I got here, but yet it still doesn’t feel like home.

So that’s who I am. I can be described so many ways that it’s impossible to list even most of them, but this was my attempt at it. This page is pretty much me.

Michael's Story

                My life in a nutshell

My name is Michael Powell. I was born in Norfolk, Virginia on November 26 1994. My mom died of a clot. My stepmom Candace threw my PS2 out the window. I’d rather not get into the details. My dad’s girlfriend brought over three dogs. Their names are Millie, Emmie, and Gemma. I also have a dog named Duke. He is a Border Collie -Lab mix I think. My little sister's name is Annie.

How I got involved here was through Dr. Weare A. Zweimer in Chesapeake, Virginia. I did so well during summer camp (NC Backpacking Standard) that I didn’t have to write an essay that the other students were required

What I do for fun is hunt bugs, play Kirby, Duel, Pokemon, and play with my dogs, and listen to Tool.

What I want to after SOAR is go to Tidewater Community College’s Chesapeake campus.

Oliver's story

My name is Oliver, I am 17 years old and I live in Virginia on a farm. I weigh 116 pounds and tall and slender. I am the second oldest out of my 4 siblings; my older brother Miles who is 19 just moved to college. My 11-year-old brother Philip plays lacrosse and is in Boy Scouts. My 14-year-old sister Claudia rides horses and plays girls lacrosse. My 6-year-old sister Katherine likes movies and TV shows. My family is unique and fun to be around. I am good at working on the farm and playing video games. I was home schooled before I came to SOAR and when I got tired of that I went to a tutor. That eventually got old and so we started looking for a suitable high school, turns out none of them would work for me and so we turned to SOAR. I hope to travel to new places and gain leadership skills.

Jake Midgett's Autobiography

By: Jake Midgett

I am a person who consistently struggles with language arts and writing in general. My name is Jake Edward Midgett. I am from Ocala, Florida and I am seventeen years old. I was adopted at the age of five and I don’t have a clue who my real parents are. I am five feet ten inches tall I have blonde hair, blue eyes, and I am athletically fit.

My adopted parent’s and grandparent’s names are Lisa my mom, David my dad, Eric my grandpa, Strawberry my grandpa, and Beth my grandma. Both my parents have their own businesses. My mom owns her own gym and salon and my dad owns his own real estate business. My grandpa has no hair on top of his head and is pretty hilarious. My grandpa Strawberry got his name because when he laughs a lot his face looks like it is a strawberry both in color and in shape. My grandma Beth is a sweet lady who is religious.

I love to play outside and inside. I love to play airsoft because it gives me an adrenaline boost. I practice soccer because it improves coordination and skill. I also long board because I can practice new skills that I learn that day and it passes time. I also love to fish when I can with my dad because not only is it fun to see who can catch the biggest, most, and first fish but it also passes time. I play chess because it improves my analytical skills even though I am not that great at chess.

Before SOAR I was in a private school, public school, boarding school, and I was homeschooled. My very first school was a private school called Redeemer which I attended for six years. My next school that I attended was an online homeschool site called flvs.net which I attended for two years. My third school I attended was called Belleview Middle I attended it for two years. My fourth school that I attended was Bachman Academy which I attended for one year. My fifth school and current school that I am attending is called SOAR. I am came to SOAR because it offered a better learning experience and physical activity for me. The school classes will only have eight students maximum so you will have less time wasted on waiting for a teacher to come to you when you ask for help. It is physical because every two weeks you get to go on an expedition for two weeks and you don’t just go to the campsite; you go all over the world for expeditions.
In conclusion, if you have found nothing about me then you might want to reread all four paragraphs above. I am an adopted male and am from Ocala, Florida. I love games and activities that are done outdoors. Finally I told you about why I came to SOAR and what schools I have been at before I came to SOAR.

The Life of Harrison Kight: In Brief

 – Steve Jobs

My name is Harrison Kight: a 16-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina. If someone sees me for the first time, however, I might seem older. My height is 5 feet, 9.5 inches, and I have a fair amount of muscle. I’m known to have a full head of black hair, even since I was born on April 1. My dad didn’t even believe my mom when she told him the news because I was supposed to be due on May 7. My main goal in life right now is learning to handle the challenges of Asperger’s, which I was diagnosed with two years ago.

My family consists of my mom and dad, my older sister, and a dog. Mom is the owner of a private physical therapy business, and used to be a college biology teacher. She is a caring yet fun-loving person who enjoys reading. Dad works at the Greensboro, NC branch of Jasper Engines and Transmissions, a company that even provides parts for NASCAR racers. He is known to be a very goofy person in any situation. My sister, Leigh Ann, is 18 years old and is now a freshman at the University of Florida. She has been a swimmer all her life, and is studying telecommunications and journaling. Haleigh, whose name is a combination of Harrison and Leigh Ann, is a Gordon Setter who is so obsessed with food that she jumps up on the counter to grab it. She is either very lazy or very energetic. The Kight family has supported me on my rough journey. They are willing to do anything to help me succeed, even taking the risk of placing me here at the Academy of SOAR.

I am known to have several hobbies, but they center around three main ideas: technology, video games, and music. I have a strong interest in modern technology, specifically Apple products. I got my first iMac in late 2008, and have since learned more about them. My dream is to become a software developer at Apple so I can help design programs that change people’s lives. I also play a lot of video game. Although I only play my Xbox 360 at home (since my Wii’s disk drive broke recently), I play a variety of games, including “Sonic the Hedgehog,” “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed,” and “Halo.” I am known to have great tastes in music. My favorite artists and bands are [currently] Linkin Park, Gorillaz, Skillet, and Lecrae. I have also played piano for almost a decade; I learn my own music and also play for the youth band at my church. All of these, however, have given into another interest; it’s actually more of a lifestyle. Ever since I’ve joined my youth ministry group, LifeTeen, in January 2012, I‘ve grown a lot in my faith, and have begun to take my beliefs very seriously. There is always room for improvement, and I will continue to strengthen my beliefs.

The year 2013 has been very rough for me: my sister moved into college; my lifelong friend Katie was let go from her youth ministry job, and I am now away from my friends while I attend school. I still hope to grow as a person and learn from these experiences, and I have high expectations for my future.
